Explanatory.—ilessrs. Allan and Woods, complai nantsinthe lftte pig case, take objection to the word "hitherto," in our leading article of the lltfi ,August ; but they sny from their own reading they saw nothing ob-. jectionable in it, but, since, upwards of twenty persona have pointed oat to them ahidden meaning, reflecting on their character; this discovery dates from the publication of a letter which appeared in the Moruya Examiner o? the "24thult., signed "Argus," who very craftily mis construes the meaning of the word, bis object being -un— oiistakeably apparent to any unbiassed reader. The sen tence in our article is as follows, and the objectionable words italicised: "Mr.. Go wing, a highly respectable man of many years standing, and, perhaps, tb$ ^rgSst"" agricultural farmer in the district, is ft'near neighbour to Messrs.
