The Voice of the People. [Newspaper Article] — Heidelberg News and Greensborough, Eltham and Diamond Creek Chronicle — 12 May 1917

Cb)e Dewas. PUBLISIED EVERY SATURDAY MORNING SATURDAY, IMAY 12. The Voice of the People. The old democratic axiom "Trust the people" has been exemplified in the recent election in a very marked degree. When the Win-tlie-War Party asked electors of the Common wealth to put everthing on one side politically for the purpose of electing men to the Senate and House of Re presentatives in order that every en deavor might tbe made to assist'in winning the war and taking steps to legislate for our soldiers and the after-the-war effects, the most opti mistic did not forecaste attwo to one majority in both houses. To achieve such a result redounds to the credit of Australians, who have shown by their vote that it was time the poli tical pendulum swung back to sane legislation. It has also proved that the mnof rlnmnellrsn Premier that L1G uluntL UctItuttabLo LGL111GIL L114L this country has had retains the con fidence of the people at the present time, and the attitude of the office seekers wh...
