CAUSED BY BURNS. SYDNEY, Tuesday. At the inquest on the body of Alfred Burns, who died as the. • result of burns through his night-clothes catching fire, evi dence was given that deceased, who was 74 years old, usually smoked in bed every morning. The Coroner, in returning a verdict of accidental death, remarked that sruoking in bed was a most dangerous habit.

THE KING'S THOROUGHBREDS. Melbourne; Monday. The chairman ol' tho Victorian Racing Club (Mr. 11. 6. Casey) relumed to Mel bourne to-day, after an absence of nine mon ths in England. He said that at present one of tho most interesting subjects debated in connection with tho turf was the part which King George would take in racing. After the iperiod of mourning had expired it was lipp ed ho would take as keen an interest in the sport as his' father had taken, thus greatly assisting to keep lip tho prestige of Knglish ryciiig.
