Some time back a Commission appointed to enquire into the question oE water conserva tion, completed its labors, aud presented the results in the shape of an extremely volumin ous report. But beyond that report it is but too evident the purpose of the Com mission has been rendered nugatory. No one willxiuestion that the object for which the Commission was called into existence was ostensibly as a prelude to. some action being taken by the State, and hopes were very generally entertained that as a result the country would enter upon an entirely new career in the highly important matter of water conservation. The Commission dealt laboriously and exhaustively with the question in all its bearings, visited many localities favorable to conservation, and con sidered or propounded schemes of greater or less magnitude.
