The Carnegie Gift Perhaps the most gratifying news for the College world last week was the donation by Mr. Andrew Carnegie of $10,000,000 in U. S. Steel Bonds for the purpose of providing annuities for aged college professors. The bonds , which will produce a revenue of $500,000 yearly, will be transferred to a board of directors , composed chiefly of college presidents . who shall have complete charge of the distribution of this money. This board shall be maintained by elections , all the colleges _receivii ~ g the benefit of the gift being entitled to a vote at these elections. Only the strictest of sectarian schools and such State institution as wish to mantain their relations exclusively with the state government , shall be excluded by the conditions of the _donation . This is one of the worthiest gifts of that great Pennsylvania philanthropist and it has received a flood of favorable comments among education.
