The result of the election held on Monday cannot but be gratifying to e?ery citizen of St. Cloud who feels the slightest interest in its prosperity. The raeeen of the measures submitted to the people will insure the carrying forward of the important railroad en- terprises upon whieh the future of this eity so largely depends. The oars of three lines will soon be receiving and discharging their freight within our limits. The depot will be located where it will accommodate all, and where its influence will ba for the bene- fit of the property which will pay the bonus—and not where it would tend to develop and build up an antago- nistic interest. Business of all kinds will be stimulated and it can truly be said that St. Cloud is now for the first time, in a position to attract capi- tal and population. The report of a Commission appointed last fall to investigate the iraodulent issue and wholesale applica tion of Chippewa Ball-Breed Scrip im- plicated many prominent officials con nected with the Indian Department and with local Land Offices. In Jan nary laat the United States Land Office at Ban Claire, Wisconsin, was closed by reason of the operations of pow- erful pine land ring. During the past eight years I have been a wool buyer and manufac turer of woolen in this State, and I ex pect to remain Iicro so long as I contin ue to manufacture woolen goods any where. The above Question is there fore important to me from the stand point of a manufacturer. When I began to buy wool in Min nesota the price was exceedingly high, owing to the stimulus given to the woolen industry by the war ot the Re bellion. In the years 1866 and '67 wool had declined at least fifty per oent, from prices prevailing in 1864, while oereals of all kinds, and particularly wheat, had advanced from prices ruling in 1863 and '64 two to three hundred per cent, this unprecedented advance also having been direct remit of war. It was not strange that this extraor dinary condition of things, namely, the exceedingly low prieo of wool and the highest price for wheat ever known ...
