We had enjoyed peace so long that people were off their guard and were scattered over the country in small oarties, prospecting, stock-raising and farming, and in many instances -were poorly unneJ. AVe have not yet learned of the immediate antecedents or cause of this outbreak but presume that the known blood-thirsty character of these particular Apaches, the bad policy under which they were placed upon their reservation, and the subse quent bad management or absence of management since the forming of the reservation arc tho prime elements in the dark drama. General 0. 0. Iloward, in September 1872, with the aid of Agent T. J. Jeffords! made a treaty with the then Cachise Apaches, giving ihcm a large corner of (ne of the finest part of Arizona, extend ing from...

W8 r 1 Tite Citizen. SATURDAY. AFUL22, 1870. M I ii I ii it Matters. Mr. Herman Weliseh brought in CO ounces of gold dust, from the Santa Rita pincers, on the 8th instant, of the value of over $1000. Among this was one nugget weighing three ounces, per fectly pure and free from any foreign substance. Mr. "Weliseh savs thatj while naturally there is more or less uneasiness anions the miners on ac count of the Indian troubles, work has been and js progressing at Santa Rita with the usual activity. There has been no Increase in the number of men there, which is now about 150. As has al wa3s been the trouble with these gold diggings, the scarcity of water is the one great obstacle. If they can have a good rainy season this Summer, the Santa Rita placers will astonish every one with their richness. But while water is scarce, there is a great deal of washing doue with what little they have, and the miners are now doing more extensive digging for water than formerly. Messrs. Kirkir and Rom...
