Decoration day was appropriately ob served in Ritzville. Stores, offices and places of business were closed during the afternoon. Flags and bunting were in evidence and every one donned gala attire and assisted the venerable mem bers of the G. A. R. in commemorating this ocassion,. an evidence of the fidelity and true spirit of liberty that pervades the heart of the American citizen. Un der the warm rays of the monarch of day remnants of the ranks of the Civil war, many of them bearing physical evidence of its terrible reality, marched to the Opera house in file and the ex ercises were held. Neergaard, of Oakesdale, ex-prosecuting attorney of Whitman county, was taken to Spokane to be treated for curvature of the spine. Mr. Neergaard's family has been having more than its share of trouble during the last few months. The youngest son had just recovered from a severe attack of ty phoid (ever when Mrs. Neergaard was brought under the surgeon's knife, suf fering with appendicitis.
