YELLOWSTONE MONITOR. ABSOLUTELY INDEPENDENT. Published at Glendive, Dawson County, Montana by E. A. MARTIN. SUBSCRIPTION PRICE, $2.00 PER YEAR Entered as second-class matter March 3, 1905, at the postoffice at Glendive, Mont., under the Act of Congress of March 3. 1879. THURSDAY. SEPT. 1, - 1910. IP A Big Strip Is Taken Last Friday, County Surveyor Hur dle brought word to the Monitor Office of the segregation of over 100,000 acres of some of the best of Dawson County land for the benefit of the Turtle Moun tain tribe of Chippewa Indians, now living in North Dakota. The land in question is situated approximately some 65 miles west of Glendive and includes some of the choicest town ships in the county. Indian Allotting Agent Armstrong has been making the selections for the tribe in question. It seems that this matter should be thoroughly investigated before final action is taken, and to that end, those of our citizens interested ought to get busy and see that no injustice is done to t...

For Horse Breeders During the last year there has been more or less demand by far mers for stallions. Many farmers have written to us for information as to where they can purchase suit able sound stallions of good breed, or as to where they might be able to sell a good stallion or exchange him for another. These horses have been used in their respective communities for several years and in order to avoid "inbreeding" they are now for sale or exchange. Many (f them are sound, free of disease, good breed ers, are registered in stud books re cognized by the U. S. Government and are already licensed to stand for public service in Montana. It is much better to secure one of these horses than to chance an unknown, possibly diseased, unsound horse of unknown breeding with a bogus cer tificate of registration. In spite of all that is being done to protect the farmers, some of them continue to be deceived in the purchase of stallions. They are getting grade horses for pure breds, unsound one...

M % Immense Loss Of Timber Expert cruisers in Spokane, who are now compiling reports from the burned districts in Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Montana, estimate that the recent forest fires destroyed or damaged more than 750,000,000 feet of timber in the four states. Converted into merchantable lum ber, it is estimated this timber would have supplied building material for the construction of from 50,000 to 55, 000 four and five-room cottages, or enough to house the entire population of any city in the four states named. To reduce this timber to commer cial uses would keep 400 sawmills in the Inland Empire busy from five to six months, while at the present cost of cutting and marketing an arm...
