We received yesterday, a note, relative to this gentleman, from which, though it was not designed for the press, we make the subjoined extract. The writer, apart from the advantage of having known the actor well, is himself a man of genius, and has had ample opportunities to estimate the gr. atness of his favorite by the only true method of ascertaining it : that of compa: ison. For ourselves, we will say, that so far as we have been able to judge, Booth was, in his better days, incomparably the greatest actor we ever saw. We never saw any one, indeed, who could approach him.— With the exception of Fanny Kemble, he was the only person we ever saw on the stage, who, in ourestim...

We have heard of very little differe::ce of opinion among the members, and we are led to hope that at last things w ill be adjusted with all due regard to the interest and honor of the Commonwealth. It is impossible, at any rate, to stop ilie progress of internal improvement now, let the cost be what it may, unless we wish to throw away entirely al! the money that has been spent, and thereby to subject the Commonwealth to a system of taxation to which there never can be an end.
