Does This Apply to You. A professor in the University of Chicago told his pupils he should consider them educated in *he best sense of the word, when they could say yes to every one of the fourteen questions that he should put tó them. It may interest you to read the questions. Here they are: Has your education given sym- pathy with all good causes and made you espouse them? Has it made ydu public spirited? Has it made you a brother to the weak? Have vou learned how to make friends and keep them? Do you know what it is to be a friend yourself? Can you look an honest man or a pure woman straight in the eye1? Do you see anything to love in a little child? Will a lonely dog follow you in the street? Railroad Man's Kindly Act. On a train of the Mineral Wells run of the Weatherford, Mineral Wells & Northwestern Railroad passengers recently were wit- nesses to a little incident which speaks volumes for the kindness and sympathy of the railroad men: A tired, travel-stained woman of the middle class, bearing fretful babe, evident^ ill from some childish disorder, entered the coach at Weatherford, hav- ing come from the far wf st en- route to the Wells. The littl¿ one, all unaccustomed to the pro- longed travel was irritable and fretful, to the great annoyance of the older passengers. The tired, worn mother endeavored to soothe the cries of the child, but to no avail; until a gentleman who was sitting near by arose and approached the woman and asked if he might hold the babe for a little while. Gladly yield- ing the small sufferer to the strange man's care, the mother and other people in the coach were surprised to see the babe cooing and laughing as naturally as if the man who h...

• & November. Of all the months of the year November is the one for reflec- tion; as we review the past we cannot but contemplate the future. The annual death of the leaves and the flowers and their annual resurrection teach a beautiful lesson. What is more richly instructive than the verd- ure of spring. Field and forest mantled with emerald in April, whitened with blossoms in May and June, awaken all that is nob- lest and best in our natures. The rich summer beauty, the luxur- ance of the harvest, the brilliancy of autumn inspires us with richer and riper thoughts. The whole summer is a continuous feast that we try to share with our friends.. The saddest day of the year to a lover of flowers is the one that succeeds a hard frost. A thous- and attachments are seyered in a few hours. T¿ie wilderness that had bloomed as the rose has be- come a blackened sepulchre at the touch of the icy lips of King Frost. But we have only to wait a few months and we hail once more the vernal spr...

■i-yyri i J3| ON HAND ® ® m m m m m Come to See Us Farmers Supply Company Aspermont, Texas Remember the election in January, to determine whether or not stonewall county shall create or establish the office of County Superintendent of public schools. As yet we have not heard the proposition discussed among the people, but to say the least of it, this is a very import- ant matter. It's almost impossi- ble to have a good system of country schools without a good live and a well qualified superin- tendent. It means more to the country schools, that is, common school districts, as a superintend- ent has verv little to do with the city schools. It is the duty of a county superintendent to visit all the schools in the county, and where a school in the county is lagging behind, it is his duty to get in behind the proposition and straighten matters out. A county superintendent has a great deal to do in the recomendation and selection of teachers, and if he is qualified his judgment is much b...
