CLEANING A PETROL' FUNNEL' When a petrol funnel has been in use for some time, the gauge strainer becomes clogged with dirt and grease and it is difficult to clean without do ing some damage to the , gauze. One of the best cleaning agents is a mix ture composed of a wineglassful of nitric acid and an. equal bulk of water It is also necessary to prepare a strong solution of ordinary washing soda. The acid mixture should be pour od through the strainer several times, until all the dirt has been removed. Then pour the soda solution through in the- same way, to - combat the ef fects o£ the acid. The next step is to rinse the' strainerwith water, and then with methylated spirits to ab sorb any water which may liavo re mained on the gauze. The funnel should be allowed to dry fo a few minutes before using. s
