THE Charleville Times. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH, 1898[?] THE GREAT "PLEBISKYTE." [Newspaper Article] — The Charleville Times — 17 September 1898

THE Cfmrlctrille Ctmes». SATURDAY, SKPTESEBEB 17TH, 189 THE GREAT " PLEBISKYTE." A general election is in the air, ancli the great Plebiskyte smells it as giants Fee-fa-fum smelt; the " blood of an' Englishman." Already the monster has opened the campaign by bereaving a good patriot or two of all hopes of the Parliamentary screw and morocco cushions for at least three y«*ars. And so he will go on to the end of the campaign, strewing his path with vic tims, depriving scores of hope for at least three years. Mighty is the power of the Plebiskyte and great his name in the realm of Socialism and Anarchy. No one can he chosen to ran for Parliament or kill " some body " without an appeal to the Plebiskyte; and woe betide bim who does not ran and jnmp and kill at the word of command. . # . So much for the thing when viewed from a respectful distance. In this case too, it is distance lends enchant ment. T» bring the cage near is to court disillusion. At a distance the Plebiskyte can pose su...
