IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS. [Newspaper Article] — Wallaroo Times — 6 May 1882

ME FOSTER'S EXPLANATIONSCENE IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS. There was a great scene witli the Irish members la the House of Commons today when the Bight Hod. W. E. Forster explained his reasons for resigning his seat in the Government, as Secretary for Ireland. He explained at considerable length the present condition, of affairs in Ireland, with which he had lately-made himself fully aequainted, by paying a visit to the disturbed districts. He was fally convinced, therefore, that the state of the country did not warrant the Government in altering their policy so as to offer an amnesty to those who had taken an active part in the disturbances that had taken place. He, therefore, felt that there was no course left open to him but to resign his seat as a Cabinet Minister, as he would not be responsible for what would follow.
