The defeat of, tho Parkcs Ministry and- the consequent ..dissolution of 'Parliament has taken us all by surprise. ; It'never.was anti' cipated that the question of Gardiner's re lease frohi prison should have again been i debated in the House, inasmuch as it had been- finally-settled in. .the; last session of j Parliament, and the convict had been set at large. But as there has always been a partv on the Opposition side of tho House that was eager to roach'ofiice 'and all its sweets ; and as the question was ' one in which parties were nicely balanced, advantage- was taken of the first opportunity to re-opon the subject , and if possible depose from power- the party who had opened the doors to tho culprit and set hini free.' - ' MELBOUENE. ... . (FROM OVll OWN CORRBSl'OIfDHffT.V ? Nov. 28th, 1874. Parliament is 'becoming moribund, and in a few days will have ceased to exist as a deliberative body, or rather will be in a state of suspended animation. The only matters of impor tance which awnit final disposal are 'tho Local Government measure in the Upper House, : and' Dr. Madden's Dog bill in the Lower House. The for mer of these measures will, I opine, have a run through without much interruption, and the latter will-'Uo .s&t to the dogs. The doctor has not elevated himself in the estimation of electors by Ills maiden attempt at law maKin^, lor his mil is a dcculedly onesided measure, and will never pass into a law as it now reads. Alter a Session of three weeks and twe days, during which much work was done, but nothing, or next to nothing, was finished, the l'ai-Iiament liai , been proro gued : and in a few. hours will, in all likelihood, be dis solved. The question that -.disturbed the peace of the Assembly at the end of. last session — and which wa3 only hushed, not solved, by .tile tho prorogation — has come up again. . On Tueiday, Mr Combes, member for Batliurst, moved that the Ilouse now go iuto Committee to consider His Excellency's minute on the release of the prisoner Gardiner.
