UNDERTAKER'S OUTFIT DESTROYED. Mr T. Twist, undertaker, met with a calamitous loss in the early hours of £>uhday morning last, when the whole of his undertaker's outfit, coogistin.g-lof two hearses, mourning co^cH^,'sociable, plumes, harness, nets, hats,/ and mourning habiliments werW,utterly consumed by the flames. Mr Twist had all these things stored in a large edifice of wood, with iron roof, in the yard attached to Mr A. Marlin's residence, in Barton-street, North Hill. Mr Twist had the property insured for £300 in the Standard Insurance Co., of which Mr Frank Rath is local agent,-arid Mr Twist only discovered or remembered that he was insured after the fire had occurred, and Mr Rath's records had been searched. He estimates his loss, however, at over £ 400. It was about 1.30 a.m. on Sunday when Mr Herb. TWO CONFLAGRATIONS. DENTIST'S LABORATORY DESTROYED. The firebell rang out oil Saturday at 1.45 p.m., and a hose reel and half\x=req-\ a-dozen men were hurriedly proceeding to the scene of a fire in Templar street with a few minutes. Itl turned out to be the laboratory of Mill. B. Sweet, dentist, which was a detached wooden building with iron roof, at the rear of liis residence. The llames were quickly subdued, but tlie building had been gutted in quick time. Mr Sweet had been working in the laboratory up to 12.30 p.m. using the vulcaniser, and then went to lunch. He thinks the cause of the outbreak was a gas tube becoming disconnected, and brought into contact with the flame. His material and professional implements were not insured, and his loss will be' about £40. The owner of the premises is Mrs Thomas, and her loss is not covered "by insurance.
