Mr. Simpson at Home. [Newspaper Article] — The North Queensland Register — 20 July 1892

Mr. Simpson at Home. Mr. George Simpson (says the Townsville Star of May 10th) was "at home" last evening, and among the visiters to the spacious and elegant Family Hotel which Mr. Simpson is now conducting was a Star man. "Let me show yon over the house," said the   genial George; you newspaper fellows sel- dom see the interior of a hotel, I know, and besides, this place is so large you might lose your way." And he led the way first of all upstairs. Here are located the bedrooms, all of them large and delightfully airy. They open, too, on a wide balcony from which splendid views of the neighbourhood are obtainable. There are spacious drawing rooms and parlors, and the kitchens and other outbuilding are of a very complete character. Of course, the visitor inspected the bar, where, by the way, he expressed surprise at   the generous proportions of the "long   sleevers" dispensed to the thirsty populace. The largest glass of beer in Townsville, s...

Mr. Peter Aisbett. [Newspaper Article] — The North Queensland Register — 20 July 1892

Mr. Peter Aisbett.   The accompanying picture is a faithful likeness of r. Peter Aisbett, so well known in connection with the Ravenswood Jocky Club,   of which he has been secretary for the last seven years, during which period he has conducted their affairs in a satisfatory man ner. To horse-owners and other visitors he is, too, always most attentive and obliging. Neither is racing the only branch of sport in which Mr. Aisbett interests himself, for during six years he has been secretary of the cricket club, also taking a leading and active part in the game, and obtaining a high average both as a batsman and a bowler. He is also a member of the committee of North   Queensland Tattersalls Club.

The Carrington. [Newspaper Article] — The North Queensland Register — 27 July 1892

Hie Carrington. We had thought that when the plan of the underground workings In the Victoria mine appeared by the side of the re-prodncti»n of the plan accom- -j panying the Gairuigtoa circular or prospectus, which also was published in the North Queensland Register ! of 22nd. Jane last, that there j would be no necessity for us to again refer to the matter, as the inaccuracies in the Carrington plan,; and the misstatements in the circular, were so marked, that no further com ment seemed to us to be required. A recent English mail, however, brought to hand two circulars /which were re-pnMished in our last issue), the one issued by Mr Ij. W. Mabsljlud, the; other by Messrs A. Forbes & Co., ] both bearing on the issue of shares in < the Carrington Company. Now, as j the last mentioned, imputes • to us | motives unworthy of a journal with any pretensions to honorable con duct, or even the baldest de- j cency, not to mention being " one of the leading mining papers i...

Gras§ Tree Ctoldfielil Motes. Grass Tree is a goldfield peculiarly situated, being surrounded to within about one mile with some of the finesL agricultural land in the colony, the famous Plane Creek land of the Mackay district. It lies, as the crow flies, on the coast, about 24 miles south of Miackay, the boundaries of the field on ths east side reaching within a few chains of that inlet of the sea known as the Castrades. Tnto this inlet flows Cabbage Tree Creek, a body of water having a rise and fall of about 14ft, being navigable to the mines for small steamers, which are aMe to lie at low tides in about 8ft of water. The whole of the Zilma machinery was landed from steamers within a few chains of the place where the battery was erected. The workings are situated on 2 hills, the chief being Grass-tree mountain rising with a gentle slope to about 500ft, the general trend of the mountain being N and S. It may be distinguished from the sea by its peculiar saddle which is very distinc...

[BT JtrVBHISj. Soke inconsiderate rate-payers of Charters Towers tave from time to time grumbled and proteBtedat the fact of one of oar municipal dignitaries being allowed occasionally to abrenthimself from lie highly important duties, to attend a race-meeting at a distance. The unreasonableness «f such ideas becomes very apparent, when we find how they do thingsin New Plymouth. It will be seen by fliefollowing that thereno less a personage than the borough turncoek andlamp-iighter is allowed to absent himself from his important duties to give his valuable assist ance in iftjwalaiang for his colony.
