The Terowie Returned Sol diers formed a guard of honour for General Birdwood, which he appre ciated. He shook hands with every returned soldier, and thanked them for turning out "in such force, express ing the hope that they might live long and enjoy good health now «that they had _ returned hoine. The returned soldiers gave three cheers for Gene ral Birdwood and Major-Geneftl Ho'bbs, and hoped, he would enjoy himself while in Australia.

A GARAGE FIRE. [From "The Orroroo Enterprise."] On " Monday afternoon \ the motor garage of the R. T. Parnell Works had a narrow escape of being totally destroyed. Mc Jack Inglis was at ,work . vulcanising, and Mr. Claude Parnell was working -in close proxi mity, when tiie former found a tin of petrol catching afire. Yelling to his workmate to !'-get_Out, he picked up the tin and hurleff it "outside, getting badly burned in the process. Parnell, who was in the doorway, struck the blazing tin, and 'his clothes were quickly on -fire, but-with ;great pre sence of mind he "rolled in the loose sand outside.
