CATTLE INSPECTOR'S REPORT. The following is the report and list of cattle seized for year ending September 30th, 1914. No. of Cattle seized-Horses, 44; Cows, 118; total 162. Persons prose cuted, 37. Fines, £17. Costs £18 163 8d First offenders cautioned, 25. Fees charged, including feed and advertisements, £11 1ls 6d, Sale of Cattle-During the year 4 horses seized by me were sold by order of the Court, as I was unable to find owners for them,.the same realising the sum of £8 13s, which, after deducting the costs incurred, £7 3s., leaves a credit.balance of £1 10s. Destruction of animals-One horse was destroyed. The Veterinary Surgeon certifying that the animal was in such a condition as to be unfit for further use, and I being unable to find an owner for same. Ladies' Column. Household Hints. Fish-line for hanging pictures will )e found not only strong, but in :ohspicuous, and it also hangs straighter than wire when attached to small pictures. To remove finger-marks from hall paper make a stiff dough of flour and water. Rub well over the 'madks, and you will find that they \will quickly disappear, leaving the paper quite clean. An: easy way to get rid of fruit stains on liner is to. smear them over with some pure. glycerine. Leave the linen for an hour, and then wash in warm, soapy water. Repeat a second time if necessary. A little oxalic acid dissolved in Swarmi water and applied with a piece of sponge is excellent for -leaning leather bags or hat-cases. Leave the article to dry, and the leather will look like new again. When boiling a pudding put plenty of orange-peel-- into the water; it. collects -all the grease, making the pudding cloth . much easier to wash, and is also a great help in time, and keeps the pudding-cloth clean. CLAII M?ADE ON MELBOURNE MET JtOPOLITAN BOARD OF WORKS Adverting to the matter of claim £87 7s lid made on Melbourne Met ropolitan Board of Works for repairing openings in roadways for pipe cleaning in various parts of the City, and their repudiation of same except amount of £4 7s lid for tar paving repairs in the places set out in their letters of 29th January, and 19t~h April, last. When these openings were made the Overseer (Mr. McDonald), drew the attention, of the ganker in charge to the manner in which they were left with loose metal on the.surface, no blinding or tar dressing, and he stated he could do no better as.he had no material to finish them up to the state he found them, and stated we would have to do that ourselves, and we took it for granted that there would beno trouble in recovering the cost of these necessary repairs.
