Elkctro-Ciikmzcal Knhravinu. — M. Dcrcncenzi, a Kreneh inventor, has spent some yearn iu the develop ment of an ingenious plan of producing relief printing plates by an electro-chemical proce*s. The metal he employs is zinc, iu thin sheets, which aro grained with sifted sand, and the design is made upon them with lithographic ink and pen. When tho design is finished, it is prcpaicu as d for the lithographic press. -orthis purpose the plate is plunged into a decoction of nut galls ibr a minute. It is washed in pure water, and gummed with a weak solution of gum-arabic. Tho plate is moistened with a sponge, the design touched with essence of turpentine, and a lithographic cylinder coated with a varnish rolled over the surface. This varnish covers exactly all the lines made by tho designer. The varnish should have the following qualities : — 1st, of not alter ing tho design ; 2nd, of adhering strongly to tho plate ; 3rd, of not being attacked by tho chemical agents used to engrave it.
