Temperance Notes. (Oontribated.) Good Advice from a Fighting Man. —James Jeffries was regarded a few years ago as bhe strongesb fighting man in bhe world. He was asked by a New York reporter what advice he would give bo young meD. Jeffriea said : " I'd give a boy bhe same advice that his mother wonld give him. But the boys to-day seem to think they know more thin their parents, and when bhey find thab they don't it is too late. Every boy that smokes a cigarette may be per fectly sure that he is doing his best to make himself of no account. . . Cigarette smoke ruins a boy's lungs, it poisons and hurts his brain. Arbor Day at the Park. OVER 100 TREES PLANTED. [Newspaper Article] — Numurkah Leader — 24 July 1914

Arbor Day at the Park. OVER 100 TREES PLANTED. / Quietly, uuostentatiously, and yefc with grim determination, a body of men, to the number of about 30, wielded pick and shovel at the Park on Wednesday and, planted over 100 trees. For 'the mosl£ part the toilers were unused to that clara? of work, and the perspiration that ran down heated faces and stood in beads on inflamed foreheads testified the "soft ness" of condition. But from about 1.30 until nightfall the pick fell with unvary ing regularity, and in all some 130 holes were dug, and soil and manure mixed and placed in the holes ready for the trees. Mr Oliver, who laid out Queen's Walk, Melbourne, and Gr T F. Lyons, of Es Bendon (also an expert), kindly supervised the work and showed how it should be done. IT IS A MATTER OF FACT. That backache, rheumatism, gout, neuralgia, bladder troubles, stone, gravel, lumbago, sciatica, nervousness, dizzi ness, are caused by diseased kidneys. Many men and women look upon symp toms of these ailments as trifling. But no symptom of kidney disorder is trifling, for it shows that the kidneys are failing to filter the poiso ness uric acid from the blood, and this is the beginning of most diseases. At the first sign of kidney disorder, begin with Doan's Backache Kidney Pills, they cure every form of kidney trouble, because they are a special medicine for the kidneys. Mrs W. Slratton, Madeline-street Nnmnrkah, says :—" For many years my husband suffered a good deal from lumbago. The pains were in the small of his back, and prevented him from bending, and getting proper sleep at night. He was seriously handicapped at his work, and sometimes was so bad that he had to lay up for days. He tried numerous kidney remedies, but de rived no benefit from any of the...
