Baseba ll Our Varsity baseball men returned last Sunday from their Eastern tri p after winning the first two games, and losing the next two, the final contest with Lafayette having , been called off on account of rain. The three games on this 5ourney which all State was most anxious to win were the battles with Dickinson , West Point , and Lafayette. The first two named were roundl y trounced by Captain Ray ’s men , while it looked good for a "State " victo r y over Lafayette with Mcllveen reserved to do the twirling. It looked a little to our boys as though Lafayette showed the white feather, as all rain had ceased at noon time in Easton , and a game could certainl y have been played. The Fordham game was lost through several misplays by State , although State’s batting was superior to that of Fordham. After playing errorless ball against Dickinson and West Point , State’s four errors all counted in the Fordham game, the winning run being scored in the last inning on Mason ’s wide ...

COLLEGE ORBIT A remarkable fact in the history of Dartmouth College football is that of the thirty-eight games played duning the past four years she has lost but four.—Ex. A freshman at Franklin and Marshal College shot into a party of Sophomores who were hazing him. One of the, men was wounded. Seventy-five per cent of the students petitioned the faculty to expell the man but the latter caused the withdrawal of the Sophomores instead. Andrew Carnegie is reported as promising _$500,000 to the University of Virginia provided an equal amount is raised by others.— Ex. Dartmouth now offers a course in the Japanese language . Chicago University will hereafter award "C" pins to the "co-eds " who taice first place at any athletic meet, or make one of the first teams. The Case Tech gives the opir ions of some professional men as to whether employment with a large company is more desirable than with a smaller one. One gentleman says : "The good man does better in a small concern , the except...

Thursday, MAY 4. 1905 EDITORIAL According to the action taken in the athletic meeting last week we are to have a new athletic field be.. tween the Beta Theta P1 house and the Armory. Before going ahead with its building it would be well to consider the following state of affairs. Beaver ~ ieId is an excellent athletic field and for all sport is about as good as can be constructed. But is so level that after a rain it takes days for it to dry out. The cancelled Johnstown games will demonstrate this. To the best of our knowledge all the first class athletic fields , baseball particularl y, have some system of underground drainage, such as brick lining, etc . With this system installed it would be but a matter of an hour or so to dry the field. Now when we build our new field this matter should by all means be considered. We haven ’t any idea what the expense o uch an undertaking would be, but in our way of thinking, the gate receipts taken in at athletic events_,heretofore cancelled o...

Preps Scared Last Friday evening three Preps went over into the mounfains back of Shingletown to camp out. About twelve o’clock their slumbers were disturbed by a knocking at the door of the cabin, a dark lantern was flashed in their faces , and they were commanded to produce their eatables, which consisted mainly of bread and cheese. The "moonshiners"(?) at the point of a revolver deprived the scared youngssters of everything and then , choking back their laughter and glee at the success of their ruse , retired some distance and enjoyed a midnight feed. It was not until the next day that the badly scaj ed Preps learned that it was some of their own classmates and acquaintances who had so completely taken them . The University Library at Ithaca . New York , received a valuable collection of letters and correspondence of the late Bayard Taylor as a donation from Mrs. Taylor , with a promise of his Faust collection later. The papers are very valuable from an educational point of view....
