The late Prize Fight between James Sullivan and John Morrissey , has created an intense degree of excitement , not only in this State , but in different sections of the Union . The strango termination of the battle , and the reported decision of the Referee , have been the general topics of conversation since our last issue , and but little information as to the actual decision of the Referee , and the disposal of tho Btakes of $ 1 , 000 a side could be obtained . Having delayed the issue of our paper nearly one day in order to give a true account of the fight , it should not be deemed strange if a few errors occurred in our report , owing to the want of time to give it that attention which the merits of the battle demanded . In a few remarks at the close of our article of last week , we c...

THE EXCITEMENT OP LAST WEEK . The Bush for " Clippers , " [Newspaper Article] — New York Clipper — 22 October 1853

THE EXCITEMENT OP LAST WEEK . The Bush for Clippers , UNPRECEDENTED IN THE ANNALS OF NEWSPAPERDOM . Although we were rather behind our usual time last week in the issue of our paper , yet it must he borne in mind that our reporter did not reach the city until five o clock in the morning , and as the full account had to be written from rough notes , yet we succeeded in getting our paper to press shortly after 10 oolock , when a scene of confusion ensued which beggars description . The wholesale -establishments were thronged with dense masses of newsdealers , all anxiously waiting for the Clipper . As we are but new in tho newspaper world , and not wishing to run before learning how to walk , we have had onr paper printed on a single cylinder press , such as is used by nearly all weekly journals , and consequently it was nearly utterly impossible to supply one-sixteenth part of the demand . Our printing room was so crowded that we were scarcely able to obtain room to attend to the cou...

Westhall and Reeds Bace for £ 50- That two suns cannot shine in thc same hemisphere is a matter long since conceded in matters of a celestial nature ; and thatiliesaineabhorrcnceof a rival near tlie throne exists amongst terrestrials , is an indisputable fact , fully exemplified by the occurrences of each passing hour . Tho spirit of a fair and honest rivalry , no matter whether it may be in the exertion of our mental or corporal functions , is one that , when laudably brought into action , should , in our opinion , meet with public patronage , and is entitled to the wannest support .
