Livestock Demonstrations in North Dakota _ The North Dakota Experiment Station has taken some of its best live stock on a thousand-mile trip . Stops were made at 37 points and two hours of demonstrations and lectures given . The attendance was 13 , 760 . The Soo Railroad furnished and hauled the train , which was taken over their newer lines , where but little institute work had been done . The stock was carried in a box car with a flat car at each end , onto which the stock could be brought for the demonstrations . The cattle were usually unloaded , as it was found that when a ring could be formed on a nice grassy place , the audience could be seated , and better results secured . North Dakota Demonstration Train The big lesson brought out was : To secure good results with stock , use good types adapted to one s likes and conditions , and feed them well . The best and cheapest way to secure good stock is for those in a community interested in dairying , for instance , to get togeth...

IWith the County Adviser [Newspaper Article] — Better Farming — 1 August 1914

IWith the County Adviser A farmer would find it well worth his while to keep account of exchange labor with neighbors for one year . During 1913 one Wisconsin farmer on a 67acre farm helped his neighbor to the extent of 217 j | hours of man labor and 112 hours of horse labor . In return he received 103 hours of man labor and 76 ^ hours of horse labor . No mention was made in his financial account of a further settlement with these neighbors whom he helped . Valuing man labor at IS cents an hour and horse labor at 10 cents an hour , which is only a reasonable wage for summer work , the difference amounts to $ 17 . 21 for man labor and $ 3 . 55 for horse labor . This man was a good neighbor , but it is doubtful if his neighbors realize how good , for few , if any , of them had a record of exchange with him . 0 * * Sweet Clover Has the Stage For the past two years increasing attention has been given to sweet clover as a forage plant . County agricultural agents in several states last y...
