planning 6 C by CO Bill Wood, CPA C 272-8567 investment tidbits Although your investment portfolio will change from year to year, it should contain investments with which you're personally comfortable. If you have a working knowledge of real estate, you will probably be most comfortable with investments concerning real property . Others may be more comfortable in the stock market and still others with dealing in collectibles, precious metals, etc. The following short items should be of interest to most in- vestors: 1. Keep a detailed record of all expenses having to do with tax and investment advice to provide for maximum income tax deductions. 2. Consider investing in corporations that regularly distribute stock dividends as opposed to cash to give you capital gains on the ultimate sale of the stock as opposed to current ordinary in- come on the cash dividend. 3. Pag* 14 SACHSE SENTINEL NOV 1983 Extension FACTS Column NEW ARRIVALS by Jo R. Curtis Dallas Co. Extension Agent POPCORN: INEXPENSIVE, FUN, FAST, NUTRITIOUS AND DELICIOUS The English colonists first encountered popcorn at the first Thanksgiving when an In- dian, Quadiquina, brought a deerskin bag of popcorn as a gift. Colonial women gracious- ly accepted the gifts of popcorn and served it for breakfast with sugar and cream. Even though popping methods, uses, and games have changed over the years, the love of popcorn has remained strong and has been passed from generations to genera- tions. Popping popcorn with family and friends continues to be a favorite pastime for Americans. Popcorn is a completely natural, whole grain food. Since it has only 25 calories air popped, 40 to 55 oil popped per cup, popcorn makes a great low-calorie snack. Ad- ding butter, of course, adds more calories-100 calories per tablespoon. Popcorn plain is low in fat, has no cholesterol, and is free of added su...

DEC 19 8 3 SACHSE SENTINEL Trout to be Stocked in Three State Parks Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officials have an- nounced an experimental put- and-take rainbow trout stock- ing program for three state parks during December. Officials said they are hop- I ing to release about 30,000 trout into small lakes at Meri- dian State Park near Meridian, Bosque County; Tyler State Park near Tyler, Smith Coun- ty; and Buescher State Park near Bastrop, Bastrop County. Each lake will receive about 10,000 trout. Hatchery Section Chief Bill Rutledge said the experiment has the dual goals of increasing utilization of the parks in winter months and providing more public access to trout fisheries. In recent years, trout have been stocked in the Guadalupe River below Canyon Reservoir Dam, the Brazos River below Possum Kingdom Dam, Foster County Park Lake at San Angelo and Boykin Springs near Jasper. These fisheries also will be continued this year, beginning with the first stock- ings in mid-N...

DEC 19 8 3 SACHSE SENTINEL Pag* White Bass on Rebound at Texoma SOME VETERANS WILL RECEIVE INCREASE The "sandies" are back at Lake Texoma. Long known as a white bass fishing hotspot, the huge reser- voir's production of the popu- lar fish has declined since the late 1970s. Now the unpre- dictable fish are on the re- bound, according to Texas | Parks and Wildlife Depart- ment biologist Bruce Hysmith. "Catches of white bass im- proved dramatically during the past summerand continued ex- cellent through September," Hysmith said. "We have seen tremendQijs schools of small whites feeding on insect larvae in several areas of the lake." Hysmith noted that white bass populations are cyclical in nature, ranging from great abundance to relative scarcity over the span of just a few years. "The decline in white bass populations here seemed to correspond with the bumper crop of introduced striped bass produced by a natural spawn in 1979," Hysmith said. "This led a lot of fishermen to believe tha...
