S. W. Thomas, Editor and Proprietor Aspermont, Stonewall County, Texas, Oct. 2T, 1910. Organize a Farmers' Institute. Talk More Diversification and Less Politics. W A PHENOMENON OF THE PLAINS The Mirage—As it Appears Often and as is Seen From Crosbyton Saturday morning the town of Emma was plainly visible from Crosbyton. Every house was clearly outlined against the west- ern sky-line and were visible éven down to their foundations. The courthouse seemed turned this wav and appeared to be tak- ing a good look for a future site in Crosbyton. Now Emma is ten miles from Crosbyton and there is a rise be- tween the two towns from which both towns can be seen at any time. This rise obstructs the natural view and there is no real view fo Emma from Crosbyton. What appeared to be Emma Sat- urday morning was a mirage, but it was just as clear and vivid as the real thing and all the houses that have recently been moved to Crosbyton were missing from the picture. South of Crosbyton on the same m...

Jgm-1 The Home Circle Column Truths. The post of honor is the post of duty. Let nothing- be undone which ought to be done. Small profits, little risks, large profits, great risks. The best kind of a picnic is a pick at Old Nick. Something wrong when a man is afraid of himself. Honesty is better capital than a sharper's cunning. Whose credit is suspected is not safe to be trusted. A true man never frets about his place in this world. Employ no one to do what you can easily do yourself. Better to ¿ie at the post of duty than to live elsewhere. Cold Weather Advice. to all is to beware of coughs and colds on the chest; as neglected they bring on pneumonia, consumption or other pulmonary troubles. Just as soon as the cough appears treat it with Ballard's Horehound Syrup the standard c"re of America. Use as directed—perfectly harmless. A cure and preventative for all diseases of the lungs. The Aspermont St Richard H. McCarty, Editor and Publisher 9= Aspermont, Stonewall County, Texas, Friday, Nov. 4, 1910. VOL Let Aspermont Organize a Good, Live Commercial Club Change of Management, j With this issue of the Star, a. ¡ new man is at the helm. It's our intention to keep the Star up to the high standard which it has attained under the able mannge- ment of Mr. Thomas, and if possible, make it a little better. The success of a newspaper de- pends largely upon the support it receives from the town and county where it is made. Some people haye an idea that a news- paper is born in a hot air blast, but not so, it takes money to oil the machinery and a few scatter- ing brains to dig up the red hot stuff, which makes the sheet read- able. We have come to Asper- mont to do our dead level best to give the reading and advertising public a good newspaper, and if we fail, it will not be our fault. We have lived long enough, and have seen enough of life, to know the uncertainties of ...

PIS \f*l we collected enough surface coal, we thought, to last us over night. The "game getters" returning with an abundance of game, all went to work getting supper. In a very short time we had a nice camp supper prepared, and as you know there is where I make a "No. 1 hand" when it comes to cooking. Returning home next morning we felt like new people. Thus our most pleasant trip to Blanco canyon ended. With best regards to all of mj^ Aspermont friends, Will A. Dunwodv. Turkeys Wanted. sil The Home Circle Golumn Table Manners American men are good work- ers. They see their wives and children but little except at table. That seems to be about the only family gathering. What a spec- tacle is the common management of these family meetings The father sits in glum silence, and shovels in as he can swallow. The children follow the parental example. The food is passed only when asked for, and is then passed in silence. There is nothing human about it We cannot see in what sense particular it differs from a group of pigs gathered about a trough If these gatherings were rightly managed; if the experiences of the children in their schools were lovingly called out by parental interest; if such news as the par- ents had picked up since the last meeting were told—if this were the scene at the table three times a day it would grow by what it feeds on. The table meeting would be more attractiye to the small people. The parents would grow into a loving oneness with their children...
