Engbrock Managing Editor Donnita Nesbit Fisher A God-free America Gina Parker Once again, atheist Michael Newdow, who first became infamous for challenging "Under God" in our Pledge of Allegiance, is attacking our Founding Fathers in court. As his new suit against our Pledge of Allegiance is pending, Newdow is planning to file another lawsuit - this time in an effort to remove "In God We Trust" from our currency. In an attempt to gain more atten- tion and bury the blessings and visions of our Founding Fathers, Newdow claims the rights of "athe- ists" who belong to the "First Amendment Church of True Science" are being violated. According to Newdow, the church's "three suggestions" are to "ques- tion, be honest and do what's right." Newdow contends that taking up a collection (otherwise known as tithing) with "In God We Trust" on t...

Mustangs hand out O By Greg Ford The 2005 Sachse football season officially came to an end Monday night, but not on the gridiron. More than a month after the end of the regular season, the Mustangs capped off a 6-4 season, which saw them win their first varsity district contest, with a football banquet inside the high school dining hall. The event, which lasted for about three hours, featured coaches and players from the freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams. The coaches spent the time prais- ing the efforts of the players, as well as the booster clubs and parents who supported the program during the season. It was a season in which the Mustangs' varsity made a strong run at the postseason, and came close to earning a playoff spot. The year included a pair of dis- trict wins, with the first being a 26- 23 thriller against North Garland. That was the i...

Section B - THE SACHSE NEWS - Thursday, December 15,2005 Stanley, Moore named November Athletes of the Month By Greg Ford A top girls' basketball player, and a football player who just finished his last game as a Pirate were named the Athletes of the Month for November. Jackie Stanley, a junior post player for the Lady Pirates, and Gary Moore, a senior, were recently announced as the recipi- ents. The daughter of Jack and Deidre Stanley, Jackie began playing sports at 4 years old because she thought it would be fun. Athletics, she said, has helped her make many new friends, and playing basketball has taught her self-discipline. Her favorite memory was participating in the playoffs. The thing Stanley likes the most about sports is the competitive atmosphere. She is being recruited by a number of Div. 1 colleges, but she has not decided where she wants to play. Her advice to young athletes is to never give up, because the hard work will pay off. Gary is the son of Gary and Angela Moor...

Haynes It was another great season for the Wylie Pirates, a team that has been to the playoffs each of the last four years. Head Coach Mark Ball was able to take his teams to the fourth round quarterfinals in 2002, 2004 and 2005. In 2003, the Pirates fell to Kilgore in the third round. The varsity squad brings players up from the sub-varsity level each year during the playoffs. Although they may not play, Ball said the extra practice and the experience gained is beneficial to the younger athletes. "We had 252 football players in high school this year. We are grad- uating 38. That is one thing that helps us, numbers." the coach said. "We have a good conditioning pro- gram with Coach Lepsis and we don't have to play kids on two sides of the ball.
