It need to be the Reid-Want-Carrutheis Ministry, now it is the Reid-Garrnthers Ministry; It once commanded the solid vote of the Labor party and the loyal support of the ' Ministerialists.' It now is. threatened with solidarity defection and Ministerial .murmurin'gs The'SolidB are anxious to dower Borne other leader -with a support se cured by ' a' majority of one at a caucus,' while 'Ministerialists' like John Haynes, J. No title [Newspaper Article] — Narromine News and Trangie Advocate — 14 July 1899

An interesting personal, political and federal question is, who will be ' the first Premier of Federated Aus tralia ? It may be taken for granted that the Imperial Parliament will in February next confer upon thecolonies ' a commonwealth constitution — in other I words, make an Imperial enactment of the historic Amended Draft Bill. ' This done, a Governor-General will j, be commissioned. He should reach Sydney in May next and issue a pro ; clamation inaugurating the new con stitution. His next step will be to* I call upon a representative public man t to fortn a Federal Ministry. Now, £ who will be that representative public P man? The Amended Bill is properly % -silent on that point. Vagrant Notes. [Newspaper Article] — Narromine News and Trangie Advocate — 14 July 1899

Vagrant Notes. ? * The ratepayers ?will shortly be called upon to pay the rates for the current Municipal year, aad as the major por tion of those rates will be collected in Dandaloo-street, it is high time some thing was done to put the road in some sort of repair. A bad road at the best of tunes, after a shower of ram it is almost impassable. Some time ago the Council approached the Govern ment suggesting the advisability of either repairing the roadway or hand ing it over with a substantial subsidy but having met with a rebuff the matter has been shelved ever since. Surely the collective wisdom of the aldermen, augmented as it is by the experience gained in clearing the little used back streets of the town, can devise some means of altering the present scandalous state of affairs. Perhaps the introduction of a little new blood into the Council in the shape of a few additional aldermen would be advis able. It is with no wish to adopt the carping critic role that theBe remarks are ...
