A large, crowd of the original Loyalist Wharf Laborers endeavored to Bee Mr Watfc this morning with regard to their request for sustesance compensation. Owing to the. Cabinet sitting, Mr; Watt was unable to re ceive them. The, men then ' held -a meeting outside, at which 'speakers declared that they were being driven off the wharves by organised runioni, ism. Very tew ef them were able to obtain work, and many were on the verge of destitution. Maay did not know, where the next meal was- -to ceme from. It was decided to make attempts to see Mr Hughes through the day, as their position was desperate.

The King has sent a message to General Rawlinson, congratulating him upon the success wherewith {he difficult operation has been completed. The skill, courage, discipline and endurance displayed had enabled the troops to be with drawn from contact with the enemy, transported gre-it distances and em barked with practically no loss of life. It was especially gratifying that the' withdrawal was so effected as to leave loyal Russian forces in a favor* able position for continuing an active and resolute defence. .

BUNBURY. ; A very large number again attend ed Forrest Park on Sunday and wit nessed a lively game of football between the aboye named teams; - The weather was perfect and the absence of any favouring wiuJ mada the opportunities of each side equal. The pool of water, which had greatly spoiled the premiership match on the previous Sunday, had disap peared but there was still a consider able area of slippery ground. In the first half Easts showed a better coni bination than, the home team and their passing and marking was the best seen on the ground during the present season. Argyle. ;On Monday, September the 29th, prior to her departure- for .the East erfa States, Mrs J. Martyr, one of Argyle's oldest inhabitants, and widow of the late R. B. Martyr, was tendered a farewell social by the residents of the district. A very pleasant evening's danciDg, inter spersed with musical items by Miss O, Gabel and Mr W. Hickman (songs) Misses Gabel (mandoline Knight (violin) Robinson (piano) and MrsCassidy (banjo) was spent. During the supper interval . Mrs Martyr was presented with a beanti-, ful handbag, the gift of the ladies of Argyle, as a token of theif esteem, Mr C. Robinson, on behalf of Mrs. Martyr, suitably responded. Danc ing was continued vigorously until the small hours of the morning. Miss I. Robinson officiated at the piano, and was. ably assisted by Mrs Cassidy and Miss O. Gabel, while Mr J. Howlett made an efficient M.C. Mrs Martyr will be sadly missed in Argyle, as she was always a good friend to everyone.
