All teste wherever made, ami ail general observations, agree that many varieties of apples, peaches, pears, plums, sweet cherries and grapes are .unable to seta crop of fruit when limi ted to their own pollen» 2. Some varieites of the above nam ed fruits are particularly self-fertile, and a tew are apparently whole self fertile, though the degree of fertility varies between rather wide limits^ de pending upon location, season, vigor of trees, etc.. 3. THE EFFECTS OF SULPHUR ON PLANT GROWTH. [Newspaper Article] — Violet Town Sentinel — 22 December 1914

THE EFFECTS OF SULPHUR ON PLANT GROWTH. S..lpJ.ur i.-, commonly ii>oii to pro tect, vin s fi\.m od uju, aiul it has long I.gcii noticed that, when thus used, it iius a stimulating effect on the growth ui the vines. >The experiments ot several I'Vtuch investigators bav© now, accordiug to the "Scientific American" mad© clear how this elfect is brought about. Sulphur does not act directly as a plant food, but breaks down com plex nitrogenous substances in the soil to the ammonia form. Hence its ac tion is dependent upon the presenco and amount of organic in the soil. Thus Vermorcl and Dantony treated wheat and beans, grown in pots, with sulphur. When nitrogen was also ap plied in the form of nitrates, the ad dition of sulphur led to no increase in yield, but when the same quantity ot nitrogcu was applied in an organio form (dried blood), an increase of 30 per cent, was noted for wheat, and 60 per cent, for beans Tim most recent and conclusive experiments on the sub ject are those...
