To [?] Clarke, [?] Police Magistrate. [Newspaper Article] — The Cornwall Chronicle — 26 March 1836

To John Clarke, Esq., Police Magistrate. Sir, — I am persuaded, that a man of sense, hold ing a public situation, will not be angry with a person who should offer him his advice unsolicited— he will imagine himself in need of it, and examine into his conduct rigidly, to discover whether or not he be so. If he should make up his mind upon the result of such inquiry, that the advice proffered is unnecessary, he will yet take it in good part, and attribute the officiousness, (which it then would be on the part of the adviser) as well meant ,and lose no endeavours to shew, that however well-intentioned and upright his conduct, it should prove to be so to the observer. You, Sir, are a young man, but you are old enough to fill, IN THIS TOWN, the responsi- ble office reposed in you, notwithstanding some vapid fools take upon themselves to say to the contrary.   The greater, and the most wise part of the Inhabi- tants— the disaffected, view you in your official ca- pacity, in a...

THE CORNWALL CHRONICLE. LAUNCESTON V. D. LAND, SATURDAY, MARCH 26, 1838. PORT PHILLIP. [Newspaper Article] — The Cornwall Chronicle — 26 March 1836

THE CORNWALL CHRONICLE. LAUNCESTON     V. D. LAND, SATURDAY, MARCH 26, 1836. "Liberty with danger is to be preferred to slavery with beauty. BALLUT" PORT PHILLIP. If it be the intention of the Local Government, to support its power, and to preserve from ridicule the salutary Law of England, in respect to wanton murder, it is needful for it to call before the proper tribunal, the wretches, who have lately perpetrated the cold-blooded atrocities upon the unprotected                           Natives of the northern shores of New Holland.   We raise our voice against the late acts of cruelty   and murder, committed by individuals, at present in that vicinity, who arc permitted, although associated with a numerous body of British subjects, to remain at large and their b...
