The H'Sharrj Case. Mr. Want at Batbnrst, on Tuesday last: 'He bad urged Mr. Reid to appoint a board of experts to inquire into the que ion of the finances under the Convention Bill. He bad kept bis mouth shut, but duty compelled him to speak. This board consisted of Mr. Bruce Smith, Dr. MacLaurin, and the general manager of tho Bank of New South Wales, which was appointed 10 or J2 days ago. Mr. Bruce Smith was asked to attend, but refused to go until .after, court bonrs on. each day, because rib was engaged in the M'Sharry caW The presB said they, were to corSmerice on Tuesday, but!' nearly a week bad already b.in lost. Yesterday Mr. Bruce Smith wasal* sent, and to day also, while the colony was wailing expectantly for tbe remit of the board's investigation. ' Mr. Bruce Smith had drawn £8000. out of the M'Sharry case, and whilfl that went on he could not fiqd sufficient patriotism to induoe him to attend the board.'

Myra Vale. A very large '"surprise party"   was tendered to Miss Bresnahan in the Carrington Hall on Friday even- ing last. Excellent saltatory music was executed by members of the party, and the whole affair went with the smoothness and vigour of a loco- motive. Owing doubtless to the social popularity of the recipient, the gather ing was the largest of the ' surprise ' variety ever seen here. Messrs. P. Bresnahan, Dennis, and Gilbert effec- tively raised their respective voices in songs during tbe evening, and the dancers were kept particularly busy under the joint M.C.-ship of Messrs. J. Henries and T. Bennett. Somewhere between three and four o'clock the "full strength of the company," as the   minstrel programmes say, joined in singing an unrehearsed version of ' Auld Lang Syne,' and, after giving three window-rattling cheers for Miss Bresnahan, reluctantly separated.
