'Concert at Yarra'tlon. ',hir'concert was initiated ,hv Messrs. T. .J. P'ope. Stanton, and Butterworth, to ilal the famttily of Mr Laing, an old, respected, and recently deceased resident of Yarragon. It is due to the exertioni of these gentloemen and more especially to theo indefatigable secretary, 31r Pope that the coe?ert on ''uestlay last was so undoubtedly e aecss fiul, both in merit and finance, that it is anticipated a sure of £250 will bo netted. OUR DISTRICT SIRES. [Newspaper Article] — Morwell Advertiser and Weekly Chronicle — 8 October 1887

OUR IIS'I'H ICI' SIRES. For the benefit of horse-breedters, we purpose reviewing the sites placed at the public service dnurng the present season, colmenrtci.ug with the draught class. There is now existing the periodical depressi n of values in this class of stock and, and, bcau the FtOuue" froreO " does not lyo\ rule, sOtee eoplare are posessed with the idea that the hreelgingof dr.ught stock: tLc no longer bU prolitatul followied. It would take up too mntch of our space at present to state the arguments advanced in support of this view, in order to combat them. \eC will simply aflirm that the values of good stock in the draught class will always be mainttiinedt in the colony, from similar causes, which have comtbitned to keep the values to the high standard values obtained in Great Britain. Breeders, therefore, may take " heart of grace," for tie present inaction--the direct result of undue stimulation lately experienced-must soon give place to a healthy vitality in the breeding ...

The Morwell 'Advertiser. VOX POPULI. (PUBLISHED EVERY SATURDAY). SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8, 1887. OUR DAIRYMEN'S OUTLOOK. [Newspaper Article] — Morwell Advertiser and Weekly Chronicle — 8 October 1887

VOX POPULI. (PUBLISHED EVERY SATURDAY). SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8, 1837. OUR DAIRIYPHEs'S OUTLOOK. THE remarkably fine season that may this year be anticipated throughout the colony, will have a direct effect on the price of all farm and dairy produce. Our district is essentially a dairying one- the marketable commodities being cheese and butter, of which the latter is con siderably the more important. Any change, therefore, in the market sur roundings, that will lessen the price of butter, will have an injurious effect upon the producers, and a corresponding de pression will be felt throughout the whole district. This aspect opens up the :question : Can our dairymen turn their milk to more profitable account than by making butter ? We are of opinion that a discontinuance of the practice of butternmaking-at least through the incoming season might be made with advantage. Our proximity to the metropolis should enable us to send our milk to the gent market daily, in good, sweet condition, pr...
