LONDON WOOL REPORT, June 25. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Gazette and Eden District or Southern Coast Advertiser — 25 August 1866

LONDON WOOL REPORT, June 25. The sales which commenced on May 10 closcd on June 23, the quantities catalogued comprising 24,671 bales, Sydney; 72,081 bales, Port Phillip; 6732 bales, Yan Dieman's Land; 20,071 bales, Adelaide; 2305 bales, Swan Itiver; 17,161 bales, New Zealand; 15,578 bales,. Cape ; total, 157,602 bales. It is remarkable as showing the extreme healthiness of the trade, that the sales opened so well, the decline being about l£d to 2Ad on all descriptions, except the finer descriptions of Port Phillip, which ruled 2d. to 4d. lower— the extreme prices paid in March for all choice descriptions leaving a fair margin for decline; the fearful failures and panic in the city not noticcably altering our market bids, and prices being maintained with remarkable uniformity. Of coarse in so long a series and with such daily financial troubles there were variations at each night't sale; but that this large quantity should have found ready buyers at so satisfactory a range of priees...

TEA PARTY IN AID OP Sr. PATRICK'S CHURCH, BEGA. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Gazette and Eden District or Southern Coast Advertiser — 1 September 1866

TEA PARTY IN AID OP Sr. PATRICK'S CHURCH, BEGA. Oil Monday last, pursuant to advertisement, a tea party was held in the Court-house, the use of which place was very courteously granted by tbe Bench of Magistrates for the occasion. The weather was all that could be desired; and tbe inooii being at her full gave those who live at a distance an opportunity of attending. Between 5 and 6 o'clock large numbers began to con gregate -in the township, giving promise of a numerous company, and, we need scarcely mention, such was certainly the result, there being about 300 present. We are happy to say that no sectarian feelings were exhibited by the different denominations of the district; as a proof o£ which we may mention that the Roman Catholics present were decidedly in the minority. About 6 p.m. tea was on the table, and the company took their seats. Every dainty was in abundance, and too much credit cannot be given to those kind ladies who undertook to provide the good things for tlie oc...

The Bega Gazette. " Quod petis hic est." SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 1866. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Gazette and Eden District or Southern Coast Advertiser — 1 September 1866

C!)c Bega #a;ttte, " Quod pais Uic est." SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 1866. Although somewhat opposed to custo mary journalistic practice, that of noticing anonymous and not over polite communi cations appealing in a contemporary, the letter from " Argus" in the Moruya Exa miiier, of the 24th inst., lias induced us to depart from our usual rule—not from any intrinsic value, or force of argument the letter possesses, nor from any mortifica tion he may flatter himself to have caused ourselves, but in the interests of truth, justice, and common sense to disabuse the minds of those at a distance of erroneous impressions of the " facts" as related by "Argus," arising out of the Great Pig Case. Passing over the irreverent, we might say blasphemous assertion that the words of the Preacher, " there is nothing new under the sun," like many more ancient saws is fat* from true, and which in Christian charity we would hope betrays rather a want of judgment than innate depravity of heart in making a b...
