Clumsy Robbers. [Newspaper Article] — The Moruya Times and South Coast Journal — 17 July 1889

. Clumsy Bobbers. . To any person of average common sense, it is obvious that the man who gnos in for house-breaking, pocket-picking, garrotting, bushranging, or any of those old methods of robbery in a country like this is not half so much rogue as he is fool. Thriving is a science, of which he evidently hog not intelli gence enough to grasp the simplest rudiments The consequence is that he certain to prove a dismal failure at the business, and the nmount of anybody's property *hat he is likely to succeed in stealing is comparatively harmlfuia- tfp Drftlia nn whatever floman first to hand and makes off with it, and the next thing he knows is that he is' marching away to gaol with gyves oa bis wrist, where as had he gone about his work in anything like a scientific style he would havff taken a whole pile, and instead of going to prison after it, go into Parliament or to whatever equally responsible and distinguished public position his particular talents might be best fitted to ador...

Bateman's Bay. [Newspaper Article] — The Moruya Times and South Coast Journal — 17 July 1889

Batsman's Bay. (Fbom our own Cobrespondknt). You must think that we are all dead here, bat we sre not. The bust of the matter is that there has been nothing of interest to write about. In the first place we must tell you that we hare bad a change in our Public School Teacher, our late teacher, Mr. Tick, quietly resigned hiB position without letting his friends know anything of the matter, and as quietly took his departure, deeply regretted by none. His place has been filled by Mr. Robinson from the Public School, Bell'B Creek, near Braidwood. We feel sure, from the little we have seen of Mr. Robinson, that he will be an acquisition to the place and the young ideas will go ahead like a house on fire. Our friends, the members of the I.O.G.T., always to the fore in works of -charity, are getting up an entertainment far the' benefit of W. Emblem, who has been in ill health for some time past, and unable .tosnpport his wife and large family. ' Thaenlrrhiin inent is. to take place on Frid...

The Moruya Cottage Hospital TO THE EDITOR. [Newspaper Article] — The Moruya Times and South Coast Journal — 17 July 1889

The Moruya Cottage Hospital TO TJ1B EDITOR. Your contemporary in the issue of tho 12th instant, w.is very sweeping in his re marks ou the tenderers for the building of the Moruya Cottage Hospital. When local tenderers arc deiiboratcly charged with con spiring to obtain exorbitant prices, it is high time for them to raise their voices in defence. That the prices submitted by the local tenderers were pretty near the mark is conclusively proved by the price asked by the Braidwood contractor. Was he, too, trying to obtain an eihorbitant price 1 The local arcnucct mainiAins tuai me uusjnuu oiu uv built on his plans for £600, or thereabouts. Why does he not put in a tender himself 1 If any contractor attempts to erect a buffi ing on the plans provided, he would probably find himself in a similar position to the contractor for the English Church some --irs ago, when the sureties had to com -ontract. The local tenderers are he placed in such a position. ce which will allow them to ith credi...

princess computed with the starving poverty mid misery of thousands of our fellow cren turos. if (.lie mi ie granting of a few pounds .portends a revolution, is it at all 'surprising that a snfl'fiiins, ill-governed, and oppressed people should revolt Against the unjust laws of an iniquitous and tyrannical government, goaded on by the latest /turnon* addition to the statute book in the shape of the ' Crimea Act,' the object of which is to shut the mouths of philanthropic patriots; 'and this it effrtotually achieves in many instances, l»y drop ing Irish members to gaol, thus disfranchising the counties they represent. Sweet Freetrade. [Newspaper Article] — The Moruya Times and South Coast Journal — 17 July 1889

Sweet Preetrade. Owing to the large imports from New Caledonia the price of maize is being kept down to a somewhat low figure. We all know N. C. to be a French convict establish ment, the ground being tilled with cheap prison labor, and this is the sort of thing we are asked to contend against. But even in the face of this fact; we have farmers who will not see the expediency of a change in our fiscal policy. Some people wiii stand any thing.

Church of England Burial Ground. [Newspaper Article] — The Moruya Times and South Coast Journal — 17 July 1889

Church of England Burial Ground. 'jWe are glad to hear that the wardens of St. John's Church Mornya, are making a move to dare the Church of England cemetery put into something like decent order. They have invited all those who bav« relatives interred there to meet on the ground on Wednesday the 31st instant, for the purpose of holding a bee. A larg« number should isuBter, and in a couple ot hours an army of willing workers would soon effect a great change. At the present moment the ground is over-grown vith rank grass and weeds, and there appears to be no system whatever as to the regulatiou of the graves. We hope many will attend the bee and thus show their respect to the blensed dead. Those who cannot attend- are re quested to send a donation to Mr. William Boot, one of the wardens.
