_lEDITOKIAJL : _® [Newspaper Article] — F&M College Reporter — 13 November 1964

_lEDITOKIAJL : _® Why Not Victory ? The show-stopping number from Meredith Willson s happy-go-lucky musical The Unsmkable Molly Brown is I Ain t Down Yet . It . is a rowdy salute to the heroine s undying optimism that declares no matter how bad things are today , tomorrow will eventually be better . For three years the attitude of students of F and M has been reminiscent of Molly s feelings , but they were beginning to think that tomorrow might never come It did Since September a new attitude has pervaded the campus—an attitude of optimism in athletic events , extracurricular life , and the College in general—both present and future . Obviously , this new spirit is due in large part to the surprisingly satisfying success of the football team . It s difficult to generate enthusiasm on a campus that s almost literally evacuated on weekends . This fall , the only time the campus has been empty is on Saturdays when the team is away . But the campus goes with the team . Tomorrow the camp...

Letters to the Editors [Newspaper Article] — F&M College Reporter — 13 November 1964

Letters to the Editors Conservatism , Reality —Is There a Connection ? To the Editors : Mr . Parkers article in your edition of October 30 demonstrates , with breathtaking clarity , the operation of what can be called , with conscious irony , the Goldwaterite mind Mr Parker observes that , Even the most optimistic poll in favor of Johnson only gives him some 55 % of the popular vote Truth as of Octobei 30 Now the fact of the matter is that as of October 30 , the _ascertainable and verifiable truth was the reveise of this No national poll was so pessimistic as to give Mr Johnson as little as 55 % of the popular vote It has been an observable phenomenon for some time that the Goldwatente position is incompatible with accurate perception of reality . My point is simply that a college , and a college newspaper , ought surely to be built upon just such accurate perception . It is here that the Goldwaterite mind and the academic mind part company , a fact pretty faithfully reflected in th...
