MAS ttV tit Mi. StftTDAV MOUSING, AVMli It, l8ot. TO BUSINESS MEN. "Wc invilfl the attention of merchants and others to the facilities offered for making themselves and their business known through the columns of the "Un'ioji and American." Ever since the union o the two papers, our circulation has been at least "trice as large as that of any other journal in the Stfcte, and fully equal to that of any paper in the South. Those who make use of our paper, there fore, as an advertising medium, have their names circulated farand near in the city and in the covin try and find their proCta increased beyond their most sanguine expectations. No man can judge well of the benefits of adver tising until he has tried it systematically. That advertising pays when thus tried, we want no other proof than the fact thatitis never abandoned by a sensible tradesman until he abandons his busi ness. It is tho philosopher's stone that turns eveiy thing into gold. "We still have a little room to let in ou...

1.1 " L'. - N A S HVILLB: FRIDAY MORNING, APJtIL 7, 1854. PATENT DOOR AND GATE SPRING. In this "age of inventions" a great many of! the so-called "labor-saving" contrivances are more in- genions than useful. But the "Patent Door and Gate Spring" advertised in our paper to-da', is not of this character. It is a most effective and useful invention, and we have no doubt it will find its way .into general use. For shutting garden gates this spring is invaluable, and no house-keeper will be willing to do without its aid after understanding the simple and effectives manner in which it ope rate?. Besides being simple and effective, it is also very cheap; another reason for believing that it will be very extensively used. This invention has been in use between four and five years, and in that time, we arc assured, not a single case has occurred in which its power has been impaired by friction. For further particulars, we invite attention to Mr. Ixmah's advertisement, satisfied that all who ...
