Iftc flailjj Appeal. I From our own Correspondent.] Sin rniiuiilo Corrcipoudencr. SACKAMENTO, Feb. J3, 1 BTJO. EDITOR APPEAL : —The legislative proceedings to-day were rather interesting. The House had a most delightful season of ludian affairs, and of hard words between members. But tlie Senate must, of course, have preference. Among the bills passed by that body, was one to exempt from license tax, the dealers in articles manufactured in this State, as agricultural products arc now exempted. The bill to create the office of State Assavcr was passed. It is a humbug, as near as lean learn, and is only intended to build up some individual's business at the expense of ether- by giving him prominence as an assaycr. There should be State bar-keepers, tailors, etc., appointed out of the ranks of •'the party."' The no-pay war agaiust Controller Meloncy has ceased : that worthy having signed a stipulation, with Brooks, calculated to hurry up a final adjudication of the question of, who is ...

Ik ffailg JipjKJtl. "The Schoolmaster'* la that 8«4."| [Newspaper Article] — Marysville Daily Appeal — 28 February 1860

Ik ffailg JipjKJtl. "The Schoolmaster'* la that 8«4."| A correspondent of the N. Y. Waverly gives the following as one of many incidents that befela "boardinground school* master:" "I had been teaching in Mason county, in this, the Sucker State, and this term was boarding round. One evening after school one of my little scholars stepped up to me and said: "Mr. Jones, father said yon would coma • home with me." "Very well," I replied, and forthwith set out for my patron's house, which waa < distant some two miles. Now, be it known, • James Mcllarry—for such was his name—had two daughters, the pride and envy of the whole community. I had heard so much about them that I was naturally anxious to see them. It seemed, however, I was to be disappointed. When we arrived I learned the "gals" had gone to a party the other side of the creek; so I went to bed execrating the luck which deprived me of seeing tbem that night. The night was well advanced, when I heard one of the girls co...

A BAD BREAK, AND A GOOD ONE. —Gut*lauf was called upon a day or two ago for a glass of porter. He reached for a bottle of that malt liquor, but somehow managed to drop the bottle he had taken bold Of, and as it fell, it caused a general crash among the pile from which it was taken. "Gettin' weak in the hands, ain't yer ?" said the customer, as he witnessed the accident- "Oh, no,'' replied G., "on th# contrary, I'M getting stout!" The porter drinker looked doubtinglv at Gutzlaff, guzzled his lush and sadly left the scene. CHOICE MEATS. —The epicure, and they of simple appetite, are informed by Tony Schrage, in au advertisement in to-day's APPEAL, that all the best sorts of meats are vended at his "Yuba Stall," in the east end of Central Market. It makes one experience a sense of irrepressible hunger, to pass Touy's stall. SQUABS. —John Kimel, the man of tlncuriosity shop, on Second street, presented the family man of the APPEAL concern with a half a dozen fat squabs, yesterday. We ar...
