THE SIMMONS BRAND V COLLEGE QUEEN'S FLOAT TAKES OFF FIRST PRIZE Among the many beautiful floats of the long Slrkuj parade the Queen' float took the Tint place and the prize of seven dol- lars and fifty cents because of Its unusual beauty. It was entirely covered with white crepe paper and .draped cheese cloth. A lattice work of sweet peas extended from the four pillars that were stationed at each end of the float. From the center of the lattice work directly over tho Queen's chair hung a beautiful canopy of pink and white crepe paper artistically decor- ated with sweet peas. Very little change has been made in the literary faculty of Simmons College and the same high grade instruction that the institution has afforded in the past can he assured for the coming year. The return of four professors who hove been away on leave of absence however will add con- siderable strength to) the line-up though two of last year's professors arc leaving for a similar year of absence. The return of Prof. L. Q. Campbell who has been teaching during the summer is a welcome piece of news to od Sim- mons students. Prof. Watts who has been on leave 'also taught in the summer quar- ter. rvi THE SIMMONS BRAND ML COOPER ELECTED TO HEAD UNIVERSITY CLUB ALREADY SIXTY MEMBERS -THIS NEW ABILENE ORGANIZATION. IN Dr. 0. II. Cooper chairman of the Sim- mons faculty and head of the department of philosophy and education was elected president of the University Club of Abi- lene an organization which is being put under way in this city at a meeting held at the Chamber of Commerce rooms Mon- day Sept. 8. At .this time those present adopted a general plan of organization provided for the board of directors and membership and social committees. Dal- las Scarborough a graduate of Texas was elected vice-president and T. N. Corswcll a graduate of Simmons was chosen secre- tary. Sixty charter members have already en- rolled In the' organization representing twenty state and national institutions or higher learning.
