\ Harvey. ? * XFrom:,Ciur Corres ondent) '-:\ At a meeting ' of the, Church of Englaqd Women's Guild it- was decided to hold a summer fair and Christmas tree early in December, the proceeds to go to the general Church fund. The secretary was instructed to engage the Harvey Hall for the event, and the ladies present engaged, with the help of others unavoidably absent from the meeting, to arrange for cakes and sweets, produce, fancy work, ice cream, strawberries and cream, and refreshments generally. Competi tions were to be arranged for vases of flowers, table decorations and pot plants, with others for nail driving and candle lighting, and the men engaged to run a shooting gallery. Brunswick. [Newspaper Article] — The Bunbury Herald and Blackwood Express — 15 October 1919

Brunswick. (From Our Correspondent) On Wednesnay last several of Brunswick's returned soldiers were 'officially welcomed home. The. en tertainment took; the form of a dance and the local hall was packed to overflowing. Dancing was kept up until midnight, when an adjournment was made for supper, and the ladies most certainlv deserve the.comolim ents of the district for the. good things they provided; Mr Andy Mitchell (Brunswick's most popular railwayite) deserves a vote of thanks for the business-like way in which he and his staff of willing workers conducted the kitchen. After supper dancing was resumed and kept up until 2 a.m., the music being provid ed by Miss Power of Bunbury. A cricket club has been formed and with a little practice Brunswick should more than hold its own against all comers, as it did on many occasions in pre-war days. -We have had some splendid rains of late and the season to., date, has been all that could be desired. The , potato crops forecast a record, and ...

Sargeanf I. H. Pilsner, After 27^ years confcinous service in the police force Sergeant Pilmer has sent; in his resignation, which has been accepted as dating from 16 th inst.- The Sergeant's reason for plac ing his resignation irithe hands of-the Commissioner was the tardiness of promotion. He had been recommend ed for an advanced grade as far back as 1911. ' . Sergeant Pilmer joined the force at Geraldton on 16fch July 1892 and his earliest services -were in the North of the State. At that time the Kimber ley blacks were very troublesome and it was only the plucky work of the police that enabled the early settlers to live in peace. The work of the police was both arduous and danger ous, entailing long rides amongst the hostile tribes. After a long spell in the North he returned to the compar ative civilisation of the Goldfields and Haw much of camp life in the 'roaring nineties.' The next change was to Noi?tham, but about this time the natives in the Eastern districts became very ...
