A Kiuk Mimicked to bis Face Things have greatly changed io Fiji since the late Sir Hercules Robinson (Lord Rosmead) took those picturesque islands over from King Odkobuu in 1874. After the annexa tion, the King went down to Sydney for a time as the guast of Sir Hercules, and there was some sport with him when a pantomime wna produced in the leading theatre — Hercules Robin Crusoe. The leading local comedian — a sort of Dan Leno — played the part of King Thackoin-WhacUem-Bau (Oa kobau is pronounced Thalcombau), and the King nearly died when he saw himself on the stage cutting all sorts of weird capers, chasing children to oat them, and all the rest. King Cakobau did not mind tho lampooning for tho Governor, Sir Henry Parkes, Sir Joseph Lines (Naeova Joe) and other leading man were all caricatured in the play, and Oakobuu even learned to hum tho most popular song put in the mouth of his imitator.
