MOTOR NOTES WILL MOTORING BECOME CHEAPER? [Newspaper Article] — Queanbeyan-Canberra Advocate — 27 August 1925

MOTOR NOTES ro on of WILL MOTORING BECOME e CHEAPER?' ot This question is a vexed one which ed it is well nigh impossible to discuss th -without treading on somebody's b corns. The first thing which fori- on bly strikes the man in the street who Co happens to pick up an overseasco paper- is the low price of car in de Britain and in foreign countries fu when compared with the sums de- an manded out here for similar models. This not unnaturally causes him tome jump to the coliclusion that the mo- fo tor distributing firms are' a set of ta profiteers. Let us, therefore, in .g fairness to such concerns deal with Cc this aspect first of all. in Admitting there is a` sprinkling of f1 firms which do charge an-exorbitant local price when such is compared with the price in the country of ori- C gin we can apply a fairly conclusive test to the activities of the bigger motor concerns whose, finances are to more or less public." It can hardly be a said that many of these year in and year out ar...

WHAT IS A WOWSER? [Newspaper Article] — Queanbeyan-Canberra Advocate — 27 August 1925

WHAT IS A WOWSER? We have heard many definitions of the term '"wowser" and looked in vain in several dictionaries for the meaning of the word (says the "Yass Tribune"). But we were enlightened on the subject at last Council meeting by Alderman Cusack, who declared that a "wowser" was a man who re fused to allow his roosters to mingle with the hens on a Sunday. His brother aldermen gasped in amaze ment at Aid. Cusack's definition of the word, while the reporters smiled as they made a mental note for fu ':ture reference. "The Song of the Clock" is tick-a-tick tock! Like the drowsy rumble when cradles rock. "The Song of the Clock", holds a 4 soothing sway When the kiddies drowse at the close of day. "The Song of the Clock" has a warn ing sound When winter-time - ailments and coughs abound, Its tick-a-tick-tock says' clear and sure- "Time for Woods' Great Peppermint Cure."

QUEANBEYAN - CANBERRA ADVOCATE Incorporating the "Queanbeyan Leader." THURSDAY, AUGUST 27, 1925 [Newspaper Article] — Queanbeyan-Canberra Advocate — 27 August 1925

QUEANBEYAN- CANBERRA ADVOCATE Incorporating the "Queanbeyan Leader." THURSDAY, AUGUST 27, 1925 The Mayor of Queanbeyan appar ently doesn't like press comments on matters 'municipal. At the Council meeting held on 21st instant he took exception to a paragraph relating to straying stock which appeared in our last issue, and remarked that the writer had apparently forgotten cases brought before, the Police Court against owners for allowing stock to stray. Will the Mayor please inform this paper how many such cases have been dealt with at the local court this year? He also said that the Council passed quite a number of resolutions relating to straying stock. Very true, the Council's minute books contain many such. But have they been carried out? No; like many other resolutions they have quickly been forgotten. Quite a lot has' been said lately about resolutions being passed and not given effect to. As Alderman Freebody once facetiously remarked, "It is part of the routine business to pe...
