The Darling Downs Gazette. DRAYTON, THURSDAY, MAY 12, 1859. [Newspaper Article] — The Darling Downs Gazette and General Advertiser — 12 May 1859

Cije palling poiung -5a&tttf. DRAYTOX, THURSDAY, MAY 12,1889. When a candidate presents liimsdf to a con stituency, and aspires to one of the most onerous posts that a man can well fill, viz , tbe repre sentatlon of the interests of a conwnunity, be finds himself suddenly transformed firm a prirate and, comparatively speaking, hitherto unlieard-of individual, into a miblic target. LuniMtoDS, - stjuil-s, eatirical cunmunicatioas to tlie Press, fictitious biographies purporting to treat of his past life, meet his astonished gaze at every turn, and assail him like a nest of hornets. He is ?nade aware, for the first time, hour much easier it is to latigh at mischievous diatribes directed against his neighbours, or even his most intimate and esteemed irieiids, titan it is to call up a smile when tke battery ot/acetia; opens on him self. There are few better tests of common sense than the manner in wuicn a wmia-oe legislator submits — and submit he most — to this provoking ordeal....

SEPARATION. [Newspaper Article] — The Darling Downs Gazette and General Advertiser — 12 May 1859

SEPARATION. By the Oimd*, intelligence respecting J?epa batto.v has been received from Mr. Marsh and also from Mb.. Ramsay ; it is to tbe dft.*ct that tbe Separation Bill is orepared, and is now in the hands of tbe Law Officers of the Crown for their approval on technical points, and was very snortly to be introduced into tbe House of Com- | mons. The form of Government is to be the same as that existing in New South Wales and the division of the debt is to be left tn Com missioners. The boundary originally proposed by Sib Wiu.ii* Dbsibqx had been adopted, which may be considered a very bad one for Moneton Bay. The Governor of the New Colony has not yet been named or decided on.
