ILLEGAL USE OF CARS [Newspaper Article] — Kiama Independent — 30 July 1947

ILLEGAL USE OF. CARS The Minister for Justice. (Mr, Downing) has informed the N.R.M.A. that he will give consideration to the Asociation's iequest that the law be amended to provide for a mini mium gaol sentence of three months for illegal use of motor vehicles. Comnienting on the move, the gen eral "Secretary of the. N.R.M.A., Mr.' H. I. Johnson, said it was an attempt to persuade the legislature to re gard the offence as a crime and not merely a foolish escapade. The ap peasement policy towards offendei's so often followed by the courts was a direct incitement to crime. "The serious aspect of illegal use of vehicles," he added, "is that so often it ends in accident. 'Case after case is reported of joy-riders . or bandits wrecking stolen cars, some times with fatal results. If the law does not regard the lives of il legal users important. enough to take strong actioh to deter commis sion. of the, effence, it should at least consider the -convenience and pocket of the car-owner, who...

JAMBEROO CLUB [Newspaper Article] — Kiama Independent — 2 August 1947

JAMBEROO.CLUB (By "Shamrock") Last Saturday again saw both our teams victorious, the Firsts defeat ing Milton by 12 to 2 and the Re serves defeating Kangaroo Valley 25 to. nil. Jimm'y Swan made an auspicious first grade debut scoring two good tries and looks like being a regular first grader, besides he is worth his place as an entertainer as anyone who made the Milton trip and heard him sing will tell you. Of course he's not in Thompson's class when it comes to singing the Al Jolson Songs "Mammy" etc. George Ingold played his usual good hard game. He can yodel too. Yes Kiama-Jamberoo also has a rule which says "if you don't .train you get dropped"-"NOT PUT IN THE RESERVES."' As for Jamberoo being frightened of KiamW, I've yet to' see it. Next Saturday the first grade trav el to Nowra and look like having a hard game as their team played a draw with Gerringong last Saturday. Should Nowra remain in the com petition the Reserves will be repre SJ..Bennan, Wa d, King, B, Rtitled ge, Tor...

GERRINGONG CLUB [Newspaper Article] — Kiama Independent — 2 August 1947

GERRINGONG CLUB Gerrinpong first graders are at home to-day (Saturday) when they oppose Berry in, what should prove to be an excellent exhibition of football. Berry defeated the Gongs in the first roun.d by 13. to 5 and since then have been displaying ex cellent form. The Gongs' impressed greatly a fortnight ago when they downed Kiama but last week, with a depleted team, .disappointed against Nowra: However they feel confident they will make amends to- day even 'though several players are injured. Ken Stephen moves to the half back position to-day whilst Noel Miller becomes five-eighth. It will be interesting to see how these two star players fare ini the new combination. The Gongs team is: N. Love, E. Miller, N. Sharpe, K. Johnson, C. Sharpe, N. Miller, K. Stephen,; G. O'Sullivan, J. Cionin, R. Graham, D. Sharpe, J. Sharpe, K. Miller, W. Miller (one forward to be omitted). The' Gerringong Juniors journey to Nowra and must, win to retain a chance of making the final four. The convey...
