(From the Burned Argus.) [Newspaper Article] — North Australian and Queensland General Advertiser — 22 July 1862

(From tit Btmu't Jraut.) A BiKKi.vi; CoEiwtATiiN. — We have heard with considerable pleasure that some of our leading townsmen are making cffoi ts to induce a banking cr.r|-oration to establish a branch here. That such is necessary, no one acquainted with the town enn deny, and that it would pay well is equally evident. The loss and inconvenience sustained by onr leading merchants throngh having to do bnsincss -with a distant &ank are so irrcat as to call imperatively for same immediate remedy, and to induce us, one and all, to use our best endeavours to procure that remedy. The intolerable nuisance consequent on the efforts to obtain the desired boon. We sup pose there is no town in the Australian colonies possessing at the same time so much wealth and so little money. The effect of such a state of affairs, experienced by ns all, is a feeling of mutual distrust, and we need scarcely point out how antagonistic such a feeling- is tn success in business. This prejudicial effec...
