Grand United Order of Oddfellows. ' The half-yearly meeting of the Wil liams River District of the G.U.O.O.F. was held in the Stroud School of Arts on Saturday last. The District Master (Bro. P. E; Robertson) presided, the other district officers present beiug Bro. Searl, D.D.M. ; Bros. Crick, Apps, and Palen, Trustees ; Bro. Boots, Treasurer ; and Bro. Kiue. District Secretary. The I delegates present were : Bros. Redman (Bullahdelah), Allen (Clarence Town), Greeu (Seaham), Monkley (Miller's Porest), Tooze (Raymond Terrace), De Costa (Dungog), and Farley (Stroud). The aunual report and balance-sheet was submitted and read by the Secretary. Bitter Rot in Apples. SpecimensN of apples, sent by an orohardist ou the Northern livers, were examined by the Bureau of Microbiology aud found to be affect ed by ' bitter rot,' or ' ripe rot.'
