CORRESPONDENCE. MORAL versus PHYSICAL FORCE. To the Editor of The Record. [Newspaper Article] — The Record and Emerald Hill and Sandridge Advertiser — 9 October 1873

OORBESFONDENOE. [W* »re not responsible for tho opinions expressed by our Correspondents.] 0 MORAL versus PHYSICAL FORCE. To (Tie Editor of The Secord. Sir,—I am glad to see the Record launching out in its endeavours to cater for the public amusemeut aud instruction, and notice a long communication from Mr. Toul with the latter tendency, with the result ol which, i nope the great majority will'disagree. It would, indeed, be very nice "tliat if any misunderstanding arose it should be settled by arbitration." But who are to be the arbitrators, and how are to you to bind them net to favor the stronger party? The mice in the fable quite agreed to the desirability of belling the cat, bnt if I remember right the project fell' through from no mouse being -bold enough to attempt it. Moral force is a grand thing, particularly to talk about. No doubt Socrates would hare been gratified by the knowledge that he would have "incalculable influence on the minds of millions of his fellow men." Stil...

RURRIETATTLE AIRCASTLE'S REMINISCENCES. MR. TIRE[?]MAN'S [?] CHAPTER VII. ([?]) [Newspaper Article] — The Record and Emerald Hill and Sandridge Advertiser — 16 October 1873

EUR3IETATTLE AIRCASTLE'S MINISCENCES. I need hardly inform you gentleman) thxtwin the second week of his visit commenced, he really did not know what to do with himself. At last a happy thought struck him, he would hire a boat, and go out on the briny deep and fish for " flat heads." I might mention that this same gentle man had been vcrj successful in catching " fiatheads" on shore, he- intertained no doubt therefore that lis would be equally as successful in getting hold of them at sea. However the fea-qnill will show, whether or not he was at sea, in his prognostications. It was on one of those calm sunshiney hot wind days in November, when the heat can not only be felt but almost seen that Sir. (I shall call him " Teuman," being shorter than " Twenty man to fill up the blank), that Mr. Teaman got ready his fishing tackle and bait, proceeded down to the beach, and got into the boat. He paddled out for some distance, let down his anchor, after wards his line, and then put up his u...
