Korong Vale Hospital Sunday was held in the Recreation R3 serve on Sunday last in idjal weather. The gathering is an nually arranged by the local branch of the Australian Natives' Association, while the local brass band provide the musical pro gramme. Mr L. R. Grieves oc cupied the chair. Those present had the pleasure of listening to an excellent address on "Charity" by the Rev Father Howell. Messrs D. Whiteluw P. M. ICiniry, E. M'NicoJ and P. W. Kiniry also spoke. Mr A. Gray, was absent owing to illness. The collection amounted to £12 4s 9d. The collection will not close until the end of next week, and anyone wishing to contribute who were unable to attend the gathering are notified that the _ secretary (Mr W. E. Vernon) will receive amounts large or small.

General News, 'As a result of the recent can vass for the State electoral rolls, ' : 100,000_ names have been added to the list. The increase in Ko . rong was only slight—from 6G47 to cm The fifty-ninth anniversary of Eight Hours Day was celebrated in Melbourne on Monday. The procession through the principal streets of the city was as usual a feature of the proceedings. It is estimated that 11.7S0 represen tatives of trades marched in the procession, which with banners and trades demonstrations, formed a brilliant pageant. Thousands of people lined the streets, and fully 30,000 attended the sports gathering at the Ex hibition grounds. Mr Glynn, Minister of Externa Affairs, has received a most favorable report from the Govern ment geologist in reagrd to tin discoveries in the Northern Terri tary. Railway Revenue. The railway revenue return for the week ending21st April, made available by the Railway Com missioners on Wednesday shows a decrease of revenue as- against the same week of £4992. In all the department received £92,732, as against £97,724. The main decreases were in the passenger and parcel returns, which were x-espectively £6077 and £736 under last year's figures. Live stock and goods receipt?, how ever, showed increases of £1481 and £836 individually. The ag gregate revenue for the year up to 21st April stands at£l,610,449, as against £4,320,445 for the same period in 1912-13, the increase being £290,004. This is made up of £59,154 from passengers, £10,150 from parcels, £184,433 from goods, and 37,830 from live stock. The St. Kilda-Brighton tramway has produ ed £16,630 revenue, as against £14,271 last year.

The guard of the train was an Eurasian of pronouncedly dark complexion, but a smart and in telligent man at his work for all that. One of the first class passengers, who was a bounder, thought he would take a rise out o£ the guard, so, calling him to the carriage, said: "1 say, guard, I've got a hat here, a real silk how ler, complete in case which I recently purchased from an outfitter's of Bom bay.
