EgUSome excitement was created in our town last week, by the appearance of a special train from _Hollidaysburg, containing the Sheriff and the _Hollibaysburg Fencibles. They were on their way to Benningtou to quell an awful riot that was said to be raging there, and which is noticed by our Hollidaysburg correspondent. Fired with patriotism, we accompanied the Sheriff and his posse to Bennington, but on arriving there, found all _^uiet. We have no d._tubt that the visit of the Sheriff and the Fencibles proved beneficial, in scaring the "strikers" from any. farther demonstrations. The disturbance was created by some of the h.imis "striking" for higher and all cash wages, which being refused, they attempted to shoot the manager, Mr. Bailey. We understand that the proprietors purpose using up the present stock ami then blowing out, to allow the "strikers" time to consider over their ill-advised conduct.

' Rains.—Last Sunday, Monday and Tuesday we were favored with a superabundant aupply of rain—though rather of a colder character than comfort . demanded. Ou Monday we reaily thought we would be favored with some snow, and have no doubt that tha residents on the Alleghenies were so favored. The weather is still very cool for this season of the year.— " Old winter " the lecherous old villain seems determined to linger as long as possible in the lap of Spring. It is high time, we think, that the lascivious young hussy should drive him off. For the Alt'-ona Tribune. To tlie Young men of Altoona.
