THE OTTAWA FREE TRADER. Drslrai'ive Fire al Quebec. The city of Quebec, was at noon on Wednesday visile J by an awful conflagration, laying upward of one-third of the city in ashes. The fire commenced in a tannery at the foot of Cote d' Abraham in the suburb of St. Itoch, destroyed several adjoining buildings, mounted the hill into St. John's suburb, in an easterly direction. At 3 in the afternoon the flames had reached St. Charles street and St.' Paul's .Market. At the head of St. Charles street, where three streets join, the lire was checked in that direction by the blowing up of houses by gun- ' powder. The wind then took the lire in the direction of thn Lumber wharves, when its progress was again arrested by gunpowder used in the blowing up ol buildings and wharves. ' It is impossible at the present moment to tell with certainty the extent of the loss. Hut a great part of St. Koch's has gone, nearly every building in the space bounded by Crown street on the west and St. Villier ...
